The Beatrice Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF) is responsible for the sewage collection system, as well as for processing 1.3 million gallons of sewage a day. The WWTF receives raw sewage waste into its plant where it undergoes numerous processes to treat, disinfect, and separate the waste into 2 components:
Liquids Treatment - Liquids are treated and disinfected, and ultimately discharged into the Big Blue River.
Solids Treatment - Residuals from the liquid treatment, known as Bio-solids, are hauled off-site to the Landfill, where it is converted into compost.
