| Safety Tips |
Space Heater Safety Tips
- Keep space heaters at least three feet from combustible materials.
- ALWAYS shut off space heaters when you leave home or before you go to bed.
- Keep children and pets away from space heaters.
- If you have a liquid-fueled space heater, use ONLY the recommended fuel, NEVER use gasoline or other substitute.
- Plug electric space heaters directly into grounded outlet. DO NOT plug an electric space heater or any other heat-producing appliance into a light-weight extension cord. If an extension cord must be used for a temporary connection, make sure to use a cord of approved power rating and NEVER run an extension cord under a rug, under a piece of furniture, or through a doorway.
- Heaters should be placed on a flat, level surface. Do not place heaters on furniture since they may fall and become damaged or break parts in the heater.
Tips for Frozen Pipes
- Properly install insulation around pipes that are vulnerable to freezing temperatures.
- In extreme weather, you should:
- Keep water trickling from the farthest faucet from where the water enters your house.
- Keep cabinet doors beneath sinks open to let warm air reach the pipes.
- NEVER try to thaw frozen pipes with an open flame or torch.
- If you are having difficulty thawing frozen pipes, consult a plumber for assistance

We would like to provide an opportunity for our customers to support the Beatrice Plus Program. As a voluntary program, the Beatrice Plus Program relies on customer participation to provide funds for community projects that are not currently supported by our City Budget. Our 7,400 customers can make a big difference in meeting our special needs by rounding up their utility bill. By simply rounding up your bill to the nearest dollar, you can support Beatrice Plus. The average customer contribution is about $6 per year.
