I’m not quite sure how, but we are in the final month of 2022.  For us here in the City Clerk’s Office, that means it’s time to ensure the various license issued in our office are renewed. While liquor licenses are issued at different times during the year depending upon the classification, tobacco licenses and pet licenses are issued on a calendar year basis, running from January 1st to December 31st

A tobacco license is required for any business located within the City wishing to sell cigars, tobacco, electronic nicotine delivery systems, cigarettes, and cigarette material. In order for a business to be granted a tobacco license, the business must submit an Application and Notice for License to Sell Tobacco, along with a payment of $30.00. Fifteen dollars ($15.00) of this fee is the retail license fee set by State Statute 28-1423, which is transferred to the school district. The remaining fifteen dollars ($15.00) is reported as occupation tax to the City. All business owners should have received a letter notifying them their license is ready to be renewed and need to be paid for and displayed at their business prior to December 30th, as the 31st falls on a weekend this year.

Pet licenses can now be purchased for 2023 at the City Clerk’s Office. All dogs or cats over the age of six (6) months within the city limits are required to be licensed.  Having your pet licensed helps our Animal Control Officer identify and reunite the pet with its owner. When coming into our office to license your pet, please have a valid rabies certificate from your veterinarian. Pet license fees for the City of Beatrice are:

  • Dogs:  $20, or $5 if spayed or neutered, plus a $1.25 State License fee
  • Cats:  $10, or $3 if spayed or neutered, plus a $1.25 State License fee

If you are an animal lover and have over five (5) animals, there is an additional fee of $20 per animal.  For any unusual animal, the fee is $25 per animal. If you have an animal that has been declared a dangerous or potentially dangerous animal, additional fees apply.

Be on the lookout for your reminder postcard to get your pet registered. You never know when “Fido” may learn to be a great escape artist & need to find his way home!
