Automated Garbage Collection Instructions

Midwest Area Refuse Solutions (MARS) provides regularly scheduled automated garbage collection services to the City of Beatrice. The monthly residential garbage rate is included on all Board of Public Works customers' utility bills.

Important Information

Follow the instructions below to ensure your waste cart is emptied completely and the lid closes after service:

1. Place It
  • Place bagged garbage inside your waste cart​. The lid must be closed. Carts overflowing with garbage will not be picked up.
  • The waste cart should be in place by 6:00 a.m. on your collection day.
  • The waste cart should be placed within 3 feet of the street.
2. Point it
  • The waste cart should face forward.​
  • Wheels and handles should be placed away from the street.
3. Space it
  • The waste cart should have a minimum of 3 feet of clearance on both sides. Do not place any closer than 3 feet to a utility pole, mailbox, other waste carts, fire hydrants, etc.
  • The waste cart should be unobstructed (no vehicles parked in front of the cart).

MARS waste carts are the property of the City of Beatrice. It is provided for your location only and shall stay at your property.

If you are receiving social security or disability benefits you may be eligible for reduced rates if your income does not exceed the current income limits established pursuant to Section 3(b)(2) of the United States Housing Act, as amended, for Gage County, Nebraska. See Section 22-33 Beatrice City Code.  Please contact the Utility Billing Department at 402-228-5211 for more information or you may complete the Senior Citizen/Disability Garbage Rate Assistance Program Application and submit it to our office.

Prohibited Items

  • No dirt, rock, brick, concrete, batteries, oil, paint, pallets, 4x4 wood posts, tires, manure, fluorescent light bulbs, hazardous materials.
  • No grass or leaves April 1st thru November 30th (See Yard Waste Program

Important Information

  • Brush must be cut into 16" bundles. Branches must be no more than 3" in diameter.
  • Garden and flowerbed waste is considered to be regular garbage.
  • Grass/leaves are not permitted to be mixed with household garbage.
  • Not responsible for other items left in the general pickup area.
