Cozy up with best-selling audio books from the comforts of home

(Beatrice, NEFebruary, 2008)- With temperatures dropping to record lows, snuggle up at home in a comfy chair with a great audio book download.  Patrons of 25 Nebraska libraries now have anytime, anywhere access to a dynamic collection of digital audio books through the new library service, Nebraska OverDrive Libraries, http://nebraska.lib.overdrive.com .

Patrons of participating libraries can log onto the digital library website using a valid library card, install free software, and check out up to three titles at a time.  Once checked out, audio books can be downloaded to the patrons PC, transferred to a supported MP3 player or in some cases burned to CD.  At the end of the 14 day loan period, audio books automatically expire and return to the collection.

This service is paid for by participating libraries, with financial support from the Nebraska Library Commission.  “We are proud to support these libraries as they introduce a new, cutting-edge service to their communities,” said Shannon White, Network Services Director at the Library Commission.  “This is a great example of libraries pooling resources to bring added value to their patrons.”

The eclectic collection includes thrillers, romance, science fiction, and more.  Look for best-selling novels like “Eat, Pray, Love” by Elizabeth Gilbert or Dean Koontzs “The Darkest Evening of the Year”.  Many notable authors are included in the collection such as Sue Grafton, Nora Roberts, and Meg Cabot.

The technology and content is provided by OverDrive, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio.  To view the collection, learn more about the service, or download the software and titles, visit http://nebraska.lib.overdrive.com.  Click the „Participating Libraries link at the top of the page to view a complete list of contributing libraries.
